flashback friday

friday... it's here again, and today i thought i would do my flashback about the trek. i know, i know, it was only three weeks ago, but i might forget if i don't write it down.

TREK....

so... we went with our ward on a family trek. we went to six water crossing, martin's cove, and rocky ridge, in the "big wonderful wyoming". it was a great experience. first, because we were able to see ward members as their truest self's. second, because of the experience itself.

NO! we did not push the handcarts or sleep in a tent ~ i like to think of it as ~ we were a few of the lucky ones that got to travel in covered wagons.

we made two trips over to martin's cove. the spirit in that place is so strong! we had to go back the second time, because there was so much to see and we didn't have enough time the first day. so anyway 17 out of the 31 people in our company went back with us the second day. we hiked up to the cove (after the shuttle took us up to the monument) we hiked about 3/4 of a mile up and 3/4 of a mile back down to the shuttle. when we got up in the cove, we asked the missionaries (you have to ask, or they can't tell you) to tell us some stories about some of the people and things that had happened there. we were waiting for everyone in our company to get up there before they started with the stories, and as i looked down the trail, here came brother glancy carrying his two young daughters. it was quite a touching site. they both in their cute little pioneer dresses and bonnets. i could just picture the pioneers doing the same, but i'm sure they carried them more than just a couple of miles.

i didn't have any ancestores in the martin or willie handcart companies, but i did find the name of my great grandfather - ocscar winters - on the

wall of the second group of rescuers. it was an exciting feeling to think that i had ancestors who were actually there.

maybe i'm just getting old, but i definitely loved learning about the histories of these amazing people. they had such strong testimonies, that they did everything ~ including giving up all of their earthly possession to follow the council of the prophet. and... they had the faith to do what the prophet asked. i think that i can say that my testimony is that strong. i'm sure that NOW, they are thinking that it was all worth it, and have received their just reward in heaven!

i'd like to think that they had even just 1/4 of the fun we had, but i dare to think NOT!

Jacki, that sounds like a great trek. It is rewarding to see the names of ancestors. It makes a person wonder if he could go through such difficulty. Sounds like you had a great time. Thanks for sharing. I always enjoy reading your blog. Al

If Donny had a life jacket on and his pants hiked up a little further, I'd swear that trek picture was taken outside of a Wendy's in Price about 15 years ago. I still laugh about that Lake Powell trip. That and the night he had the Handi-gas noisemaker, or the time he shaved off half his mustache and Jacki couldn't figure out what was different about him.
