should i feel special?

well i did for a few minutes this morning. then i got shot down!
let me explain...
this morning, i couldn't sleep, so about 5:00 a.m. i finally decided to quit fighting it and just get up and get something done. well... you see, it's saturday morning. (a morning that you feel like sometimes you can sleep in and not feel guilty about it. i must be getting old, because i don't seem to enjoy that as much, anymore.) anyway, as i was getting out of bed, don rolled over, put his arms around me, and proceeded to tell me how much i mean to him. i'm thinking, "ohhh, he is so, so sweet!". then in the same breath, he asks me, which pump he was looking for.?! i asked him "what pump are you looking for?"! and he said, "oh, i don't know." turns over and starts snoring again.
i don't know... should i or shouldn't i go iron his shirts, like i was planning?

labor day weekend

i found out just what labor day really means! don and i took the 4 year olds ~ kendyl and siona with us to fairview for the weekend. (sorry, my camera died, and i didn't take any pictures). we didn't go down until late saturday night, so they were both zonker-rooed by the time we got there and went right to bed ~ no problem! the next morning, we got up (AND... grandpa even got up, and made breakfast of sausage and waffles with strawberries and of course, whip cream), while i made up the beds and got the girls dressed. i forgot how much time it actually takes to beg and plead, threaten, beg some more, etc, to get little girls to get dressed, then to comb their hair. siona's was a breeze... she has hair like my girls had - fine and not a lot. kendly's on the other hand, is as thick as a horses tail! luckily, tiff had it combed in a way that it didn't get too messy while she was asleep and all i had to do was just touch it up here and there. of course, when we sat down for breakfast, both of them wanted gramma to set by them, and both of them want to say the blessing on the food! so we had to have a little talk about taking turns... AGAIN.
after lunch, we went for a ride on the four wheelers up over the top of birch creek with some of the 'mugleston' clan and their friends. we stopped and let the kids play in the water at birch creek, cross a log across the creek and play in a waterfall. i thought for sure that we would have some sleepy kids by the time we got back to the trailer, but NO... they must have found some kind of 'fairy dust' or something (maybe it was something in the water), because when we got back, they were rip, roarin' and ready to go! they went down to the swing with donnie, and AGAIN, it's the "turns" thing. but then kendyl said to don, "grandpa, i think i'll just let siona go first on the swing, this time." don's thinking ~ "wow! kendyl, whats up with this?" then after a minute, she added to her sentence... "then we won't have to listen to her whine!". you have to understand this relationship. they really love each other, but it is constant competition (with each other), no matter what it is... whether it's over who is smarter or over who gets the purple paint brush, who gets to say the blessing on the food, who gets to sit by gramma (not that i don't have 2 sides or anything), who's rock is the prettiest, and yes, they even fight over the sticks on the mountain. i finally, had to go out and show them that there were so many flipping sticks on the mountain, that they didn't need to fight over any 'certain' one! (could have been worse... last year they fought over the stars in the sky.) we painted rocks with glue and put blue glitter on them and set them out to dry. and they painted a lot of rocks with just plain ol' water, (the best!!)
anyway... later, they both went down and helped grandpa build a fire, so that we could roast our hot dogs and bratts over the coals for dinner. and when i went to get the stuff out to take down by the fire, i had forgotten the hot dog buns (at home). no big deal for the little girls, because they would just as soon not have a bun, but not the best thing to tell donnie! anyway, we had our hotdogs and bratts, with ketchup and mustard and chips and salsa, for dinner. then some of the 'mugleston' clan with their friends, came up to the fire to make 'smores. jillyne had glow sticks that she handed out to all of the kids. they played around for awhile, until the kids were so tired, they could hardly keep their eyes open. they were both soooo dirty and i needed to bath them. kendyl was okay with that, but siona did NOT want to bath and especially did NOT want her hair washed ( i guess she thought the marshmallow and chocolate mixed with the dirt, in her hair, was a nice look). so i put them in the tub, with tears and all. scrubbed them down, washed hair, lotioned them up, put their p.j.s on and layed them down. siona was asleep in a heartbeat. kendyl got a second wind and talked my ear off until grandpa came in from the fire. monday morning, siona woke up as happy as a lark. we were looking for a needle to open some glue, when kendyl came to the side of the bed and said, "you woke me up!":(. i told her to go back up and get in bed and when she got up again to get up on the other side! (she had NO idea what i was talking about). when she figured out that we were working on our "BYU" glitter rocks, she decided to get up. we put a "Y" on the blue glitter rock, with glue and sprinkled white glitter on he "Y". then of course, we had to do glitter fingernails. they argued and played, while grandpa and i cleaned things up and got ready to go home. on the way home, they were little angels! teasing grandpa and giggling about it all the way.
i know why i had my kids while i was young! when you get as old as i am... no matter how good they are (and even if you do get a little help from grandpa), you get worn out a lot faster than you use to. and labor day brings on a whole new meaning! but i still love to take my grand kids with me and always will, no matter how much work it is!

b.y.u. thursday's hero

mel and george nominated grandpa hunter for the "b.y.u. thursday's hero".

mel had to send in some information about him, and within just a short time, she got an e-mail back stating that they had accepted him and would call to be honoring him some time during the football season. the next thing she knew, she had another e-mail, asking her to bring him over this past thursday. we made all of the arrangements to get him over there (not knowing for sure what was really going to happen). now if any of you know grandpa, you know what a crazy, b.y.u. fan he is, but you also know that right now, he isn't much for going anywhere out of his comfort zone. mel called and told him that she wanted to take him somewhere on thursday and asked him if that would be okay. he agreed, but had NO idea what was going on. we had lacey set out his b.y.u. sweatshirt (yes, we know that it's 97 degrees outside, but to grandpa, that's still too cold! ~ he also had his blanket over him the whole time) .
when we went to pick him up, mel finally told him what was going on ~ and

jan jorgensen with grandpa

because HE is our "hero", we wanted to share him with the b.y.u. football team. he had a grin on his face, that no one could have taken off even with a grinder. i have to say, that from the gentleman who greeted us at the first door, the secretaries, the guide who took us thru all of the football offices, to the coaches, and then to the players on the team, nothing but dignity and respect, was shown to all of us, especially to grandpa.
we watched the team finish up with their practice and then the team captains presented grandpa with a b.y.u. flag, that all of the players signed as they left practice, a couple of b.y.u. hats, a

defensive lineman Russell Tialavea presented grandpa with a bag of b.y.u. gifts,

signing the flag

jersey and a couple of b.y.u. tee shirts. they also had grandpa sign the big b.y.u. flag that they run around the stadium before every game. kendyl was going to sing the b.y.u. fight song to them, but when it came down to it, she clammed right up. coach mendenhall told her that all of them knew that song and that they probably could all help her sing it. so they all blurted out with the b.y.u. fight song. after that, we were free to visit with all of the coaches and players.

goooooooo cougars!!!!

grandpa and max hall

all of the players were so cute with grandpa, and told him how much they appreciated him being such a loyal fan. they all made such an effort to make sure that they all went out of their way to talk to him and made him feel special. AND... then they beat oklahoma...
WAY TO GO COUGS!

grandpa with just a few of his greatest fans!

grandpa, you may have been b.y.u.'s thursday's hero, but to all of us...
you're a hero everyday! we love you!

thanks, mel and george, this is a day grandpa will never forget!
and... also a great big THANK YOU to ALL of the b.y.u. coaches, staff, and football team!
you were incredible! what more can i say?!

griffin and gretchen

congratulations to my cute little niece gretchen and her new husband griffin!

we spent a beautiful day last thursday with them as they were sealed in the salt lake temple. then over to the lion house for a luncheon, where we watched as griffin sat gretchen on a chair in front of him and played his guitar as he tried to sing a song (that he had learned just for her, because he knew she liked it) as his voice quivered. it was so cute and you could see the love they have for each other. it was a beautiful sunshiny day, and their reception was just as beautiful. i got to spend some time with all of my favorite people at some time during the day. watching g & g all day, seeing the glow they had, as they were constantly looking into each others eyes. knowing that they love each other so much and want to be together forever, made me stop and think about how lucky i am to be married to my best friend and sweetheart. yes it's been a lot of years, but, i still love him and love to be with him whenever, doing whatever. thanks gretchen and griffin for letting me spend this special day with you. and may you have many, many, more special days in your lives!
